Cuban seismologists record earthquake perceptibility in Haiti

Santiago de Cuba, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) The National Seismological Service of Cuba reported the slight perception by certain people who live here in tall buildings of the earth tremor that occurred on Monday in Haiti, with a magnitude of 5.6 degrees.

The daily report of that network of stations, attached to the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), indicated that 67 telluric movements have been recorded in Haiti in recent hours, 12 of which had a magnitude of more than 3.5.

Although in this specialized information only seismic occurrence appears in the areas of Santiago-Baconao, Paso de los Vientos-Gran Inagua and Pilon-Chivirico, with two tremors each and a range of magnitudes below 2.0, it continues drawing attention what happened on Haitian soil.

In a recent publication on his Facebook page, Dr. Enrique Arango, CENAIS technical deputy director, warned about an increase in this occurrence in Haiti’s southwestern region, although without consequences so far for Cuba.
