The spokeswoman of that humanitarian organization in that territory Irene Nakasita said that the death toll could rise in the next hours as search and rescue operations by rescuers, police and other forces continue.

The reported missing person is an 11-year-old boy, a resident of Buzeyi village, who was trapped by a landslide while running, the source said.

According to New Vision news website, in March 2010, torrential rains and floods provoked the destruction of more than 1,000 homes and some 2,000 people were displaced in five areas within the county of Kisoro.

On the occasion, the main sub-counties affected were Nyarubuye, Kanaba, Murona, Nyabwishenya and Busanza.

In response to the new weather event in southwestern Uganda, government authorities announced the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
