The Cuban leader held a phone conversation with Mr. Tamayo Méndez, also Hero of the Republic of Cuba, on his birthday, as he posted on Twitter.

“It was a great pleasure to talk to this man who is a symbol of how high the #Revolution raised the dream of the humble. Congratulations!” Mr. Díaz-Canel tweeted.

In 1978, Arnaldo Tamayo was selected to integrate the Intercosmos Program and trained at the Star Village in the Soviet Union allowing him to orbit the earth 128 times for more than seven days, as well as conduct 21 experiments for the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
