Both institutions said travel restrictions have no impact on reducing the spread of Omicron variant, so they strongly recommend to act in accordance with travelers´ health status, rather than the epidemiological situation of their country of origin.
IATA and ACI Europe backed up their statements with results from independent research conducted in Finland and Italy, which provided insight into developing a Europe-wide policy for removing restrictions.
The study revealed that despite restrictions imposed in both nations (Finland and Italy), the Omicron variant transmission was too similar to that of countries that did not apply travel restrictions.
Instead, provisions did have a negative impact on the economy in general, and not just on tourism and workforce.
