Major items brought in from China include telecommunication instruments, fertilizers, electronic components and instruments, organic chemicals and drug intermediates and electrical machinery, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel told Parliament.
Some of these imports, such as active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug formulations, provide local industry with raw materials to produce finished products that India then exports, she said.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal noted that basic commodities increased in India’s exports to China include engineering goods, petroleum, organic and inorganic chemicals, electronics, marine, cotton yarn and minerals, Goyal said.
Goyal noted that India is making sustained efforts to achieve a more balanced trade with China.
