On this anniversary, we think about our Cuban friends who are fighting against the blockade and resisting, Didier Philippe, president of the organization, which has supported Cuba for more than six decades, told Prensa Latina.
On February 3, 1962, then US President John F. Kennedy signed the executive order 3447 to put into effect a blockade that Washington was already implementing in sectors such as energy and sugar, in its quest to subdue the emerging Revolution.
France Cuba condemned the tightening by successive White House administrations of that policy, which is aimed at suffocating an entire country, and its extraterritorial nature, with the Torricelli Act (1992) and Helms Burton Act (1996).
He also condemned the approval by President Donald Trump (2017-2021) of 243 measures to tighten the blockade, including 60 that were decreed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and all maintained by his successor in the Oval Office, Joe Biden.
Nothing justifies so much hatred and such actions that worsen Cubans’ living conditions, he stressed.
