Luanda, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) The member States of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) on Thursday condemned the attempted coup d'état in Guinea Bissau unanimously, and expressed their support for the Government and people of that African nation.

The statement was issued in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, during a meeting convened by Angola, as the pro tempore president of the CPLP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed in Luanda.

The forum, whose sole objective is to analyze the situation in Guinea Bissau, was held in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of an ordinary session of the Executive Council of Ministers of the African Union (AU).

Tete Antonio, head of Angolan diplomacy, chaired the CPLP meeting, an organization to which Guinea Bissau belongs as a full member State.

At least 11 people were killed as a result of intense shooting around the presidential palace in Bissau on Tuesday, according to an official communiqué.

On behalf of the CPLP, Angola repudiated the February 1 attempted coup and then President João Lourenço ratified over a telephone call the solidarity for his counterpart, Sissoco Embalo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled.

Since August 2020, Western Africa has been the scenario of four coups d’état, the most recent one took place in Burkina Faso on January 24.
