Kit McConnell, director of the entity, stated that of the 2,902 athletes present at the event, 1,325 are female and the figure constitutes a record compared to previous events.

As he recalled, during the Pyeongchang 2018 competition, the level of female participation was 41 percent and now the organizers of Beijing 2022 have sought a better balance in the programming of the competitions in which the female athletes compete.

There are also have more mixed events in these Games, with the quotas for women increased in seven disciplines. Ecuador, Kosovo and Malaysia included female athletes in their delegations for the first time in their history.

The IOC plans to go further and achieve parity in terms of gender ahead of the winter event in Milan-Cortina 2026.
