Some 17,740 patients are in hospitals or at home, 10,354 of whom are suspected cases; 118 are under epidemiological surveillance; and 7,268 are confirmed active cases (four more than on Sunday), Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said.
At his regular weekly press briefing, Dr. Duran informed that health authorities discharged 1,341 patients from hospitals, so the number of recoveries rose to 1,039,139 (98.5 percent).
Health centers are treating 52 patients in intensive care units: 15 in a critical state and 37 seriously ill.
The provinces with the highest incidence of local cases on Monday are Holguin (226), Matanzas (126), Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spíritus (124), and Artemisa (114).
Cuba has reported 1,054,909 Covid-19 cases since March 11, 2020, and the death toll rose to 8,443.
The expert reported a 0.80-percent lethality in Cuba, a figure lower than that of the world (1.46) and the Americas (1.81).
Dr. Duran mourned the death of 42 patients in the past week, eight more than the previous one (30 of whom had high blood pressure) and warned about a rise in the death toll as of the 50th week and the everyday average.
In the past week, Cuba detected 15 new cases with the Omicron variant, so the number of these cases has risen to 229 since early December, 2021.
