Quito, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian legislators are verifying as of this Monday the state of medicines supply in hospitals of the Ministry of Public Health and the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security.

The review is being conducted by the members of the Right to Health Commission, who are mainly interested in medicines to treat rare, orphan and catastrophic diseases.

According to a press release issued by the National Assembly, these visits are carried out within the framework of a disposition by the Legislative Administration Council to investigate the performance of public servants responsible for the purchase of the necessary medicines to treat people with disabilities and patients with the aforementioned diseases.

The parliamentary team also assesses the situation of hospital care and the supply of the basic medicines in the National Health System.

This Monday, legislators expect to visit the Eugenio Espejo Hospital and the Isidro Ayora Maternity Hospital, both located in Quito and belonging to the Ministry of Public Health.
