On his official Twitter account, the head of Cuban diplomacy remarked that “the application of this inhumane practice reflects the reprehensible record of the northern nation in human rights matters.”

In 2015, there were around 3,000 children and teenagers in US prisons sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, while 10,000 other minors remained confined in adult prisons, according to media reports.

“Children as young as 13 have been tried as adults and sentenced to die in prison without any consideration for their age or the circumstances of the crime they committed,” the Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported.

According to the Children’s Defense Foundation, nearly 700,000 children were arrested and 3,371 killed with firearms in 2019 in the country that claims to be a reference regarding the defense of human rights.

The State of America’s Children report specifies that a minor or teenager was arrested every 45 seconds in the United States.
