According to a military statement, the aircrafts will be Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon two, regularly used in observation missions, the Sofia daily Standart reported Wednesday.
This action is part of NATO’s plan to increase its military presence on the alliance’s eastern flank in order to put pressure on Russia.
According to the source, the first Spanish fighters will land at a Bulgarian air base before the end of this week, and will participate in airspace protection together with the Balkan country’s Air Force until the end of March.
Bulgarian defense authorities stressed that at the end of last month, it was agreed to conduct joint operations with Spain to strengthen airspace protection.
