Protests anticipated in the US over Covid-19 restrictions

Washington, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The protest led by truckers against the Covid-19 restrictions in Canada is spreading and could reach the United States, US political observers of all tendencies warn.

This was expressed by Niall Stanage in his column The Memo in The Hill newspaper, pointing out that this will add one more confrontation to the US debate on the pandemic, which is already very bitter and polarized at a time when the country is over 915,000 deaths due to the disease.

Tentative plans are being drawn up, he reported, for a US equivalent of the Canadian “Freedom Convoy,” which initially focused on Ottawa but has already spread to three border crossings and affected the auto industry in the Great Lakes.

US activists said that the protests in the US would travel from California to Washington, although no decision has been made yet, they said.

The Canadian protest began as a reaction to the requirement that truckers be vaccinated to cross the US border. But it has grown into a much broader cause, opposing anti-pandemic restrictions in general.

Republican politicians, Stanage stressed, including former President Trump, support the Canadian truckers, whose actions also became a rallying point among conservative personalities in the US media.
