“We know in what conditions Cuba lives. It is an incessant external pressure, an economic blockade. Thanks to the wisdom of its leaders and the courage of the Cuban people, you face these difficulties,” he said.

During the meeting, Golovchenko stressed the importance of food security for the country and indicated that Minsk is interested in advancing a group of joint projects in the agricultural sphere, the poultry and livestock industry.

“We understand there is demand in Cuba and Belarusian technologies can be applied there. Now specialists are working on a plan of action,” he noted.

He said the Belarusian president, Alexandr Lukashenko, gave instructions to intensify the implementation of all projects with Cuba and consider new ones.

“I am sure that, following the instructions of the leaders of both states, we will find new opportunities for cooperation,” he said.

Unfortunately, both countries had to face the challenge of Covid-19, which prevented the implementation of part of the agreements established between the two governments.

“However, we are recovering positions. According to the results of 2021, the turnover increased three times. We have overcome the recession and are going at a good pace,” he said.

The Belarusian Prime MinisterHe stressed the importance of the participation of Cuban authorities in the regular meetings of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). “I am sure that, despite the geographical distance between Cuba and the UEE, in the near future the practical component of an observer state will necessarily bear fruit,” he emphasized.

This year, Cuba and Belarus will celebrate three decades of diplomatic relations and a new meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is scheduled to be held in Havana in March.

According to Cuban diplomatic sources, imminent joint investment projects are being opened in tourism, agriculture and biotechnology.
