Moscow-Minsk meeting to focus on bilateral relations, security

Moscow, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexandr Lukashenko will meet here next Friday to analyze bilateral relations and European security issues, it was reported today.

The last meeting of the two leaders took place last December 29 in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, however, intergovernmental exchanges remained during this month and a half, especially in defense.

On February 10, the Allied Resolution 2022 joint military maneuvers between the armies of the two countries began on Belarusian ranges as part of the second stage of testing the Union State’s response forces.

As reported by the Defense Ministries of both countries during the exercises the joint troops practice confrontation and rejection of an alleged external aggression, counter-terrorism and defense of the interests of the two allied nations.

The exercises were preceded by a first phase of tests, between the end of January and February 9, in which the countries repositioned their forces, formed troops groups in determined areas, guarded important civilian and military installations and protected the air borders.

Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik stressed yesterday that the troops of each country will return to the headquarters of their respective units after the training, in response to speculation about the possible stationing of Russian troops in this country.
