In a report approved by 518 votes in favor, 88 against and 85 abstentions, the European Parliament (Strasbourg, France) warned that the Community’s commitments to reducing greenhouse gases are at risk of not being fulfilled.
This would be the case if the implementation of such technology is not rapidly boosted.
The rapporteur from the Renew Europe group’s report, Morten Petersen, pointed out that the marine renewable energy strategy is fundamental to green transition, where time is essential.
He said they need a lot of green electricity to meet the climate targets, and added that such a strategy is absolutely essential in order to renew the immediate future.
The document adopted by the European Parliament calls for shorter permitting procedures, more transparent processes in EU countries and facilities that ensure the coexistence of infrastructure with existing activities such as shipping.
