The 24th Winter Olympic Games conclude in Beijing

Beijing, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) A fusion of lights, colors and high technology bids farewell to the 24th Winter Games, which among many factors, will go down in history for making Beijing the only city on the planet to host both olympic variants.

These elements accompany every moment of the ceremony, which began at 20:00 local hour, leaded by the host President Xi Jinping and the president of the International Olympic Comittee (IOC), Thomas Bach, and in the presence of few spectators as part of the mechanism to fight against Covid-19.

The ceremony includes performances of dances allegorical to the winter season, the projection of some of the best performances of the games and the departure of the athletes with the flags of their countries.

As with the opening of the event on the 4th, this ceremony is expeted to be simple and short in duration.

China, at the end of the ceremony, will present the olympic flag to Italy, whcih will host the 25th edition of the games in 2026 and in Milan-Cortina.

Beijing 2022 was attended by more than 2,900 athletes from 91 delegations, the IOC evaluated them as successful and highlighted, in particular, the sanitary measures, which allowed for the early detection and treatment of the 436 cases of Covid-19 reported among the participants.

The IOC also awarded the Olympic Cup to the people of China, considering that their support, commitment and hospitality were key factors in the celebration of the Games.

The Paralympic version of Beijing 2022 will be held from March 4 to 13.
