Cristosal Monitoring Director Rina Montti recently denounced the lack of public policies to help these victims, many of whom do not report the reasons that force them to leave their homes.

“Most people do not denounce because they do not believe that the National Civil Police or the Attorney General’s Office will do anything, or because they fear reprisals,” Montti explained to local media.

The researcher appointed that Cristosal attended to 38 cases of forced displacement related to a disappearance in the last six months, a phenomenon whose increase contrasts with the decrease in homicides.

El Salvador has a Special Law for the Care and Integral Protection of Victims of Violence in Conditions of Forced Displacement, but its enforcement is insufficient for the number of cases.
