Damascus is convinced that the current problem is the result of the actions by the West, particularly the United States, aimed at dividing peoples and undermining Russia’s national security, the Syrian Presidency said in a statement.

It reiterated that confronting Western policies is a problem of mutual interest for all peoples opposing hegemony.

During the reception of a Russian parliamentary delegation in December 2021, President Bashar al-Assad affirmed Syria’s readiness to build and strengthen relations with the Luhansk and Donetsk republics, taking into account common interests and mutual respect, the text noted.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad on Tuesday announced his country’s support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognize the independence of the two Donbas republics.
