For that crime former military Miroslav Marcek is serving a 25-prison sentence. He was the confessed perpetrator of the deed, but then Kocner denied any link with the accused as well as the alleged financing of the assassination, and emerged unscathed from the process.

Kuciak published several articles linking the accused to corruption cases and exposing security officials in this country, but shortly thereafter he and his wife were shot dead at their residence. During the initial investigative process, a whole corrupt scheme came to light, which resulted in the arrest of judges, prosecutors and police officers, but businessman Kocner was acquitted in September 2020, due to lack of evidence.
