The statement, posted on Twitter, said that “Peru expresses its deep concern about the evolution of events in Ukraine, rejects the use of force and reiterates its call to cease all hostilities and ceasefire violations in Ukraine.”
It reaffirmed the conviction that international peace and security “entail the imperative obligation to find solutions to conflicts through peaceful means, in line with the United Nations Charter and international law.”
On the other hand, renowned Peruvian international analyst Farid Kahhat, while disagreeing with the Russian military operation launched on Wednesday, recalled as an element of context the expressed willingness of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to receive Ukraine as a member country.
This openness is considered by Russia as a threat to its security, affected by the breaking of the commitment of the US military bloc and its European allies, created against the Soviet Union, of not expanding eastward.
