Tsavdaridis presented Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, in Spanish), with a plaque expressing his militant and supportive greetings to that organization and to the people of Cuba “for their heroic resistance against the blockade and the imperialist plans of the United States and its allies.”

Gonzalez Llort expressed his deep gratitude for this recognition and explained work done at ICAP and its treatment of peace issues to the visitor.

During the meeting, held at the House of Friendship in the capital, both officials also discussed possible events to be organized by the two organizations.

Tsavdaridis, who arrived in Cuba on Wednesday, also met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the WPC executive secretary will last until March 1 with an agenda that includes other working sessions with ICAP and preparations for the 7th International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases.

Tsavdaridis will also visit the Fidel Castro Center, hold talks with political and governmental authorities and representatives of civil society and give a lecture on regional conflicts that threaten world peace.
