The legislative bench of the Broad Front (FA) last year questioned the main signatory of the agreement on February 25, 2021, then-Minister of Transportation Luis Alberto Heber, who was accused of acting against the country’s sovereignty.
Subsequently, opposition senators filed a complaint at the Attorney General’s Office for alleged criminal activity.
A draft resolution in the Court of Accounts points out that the government’s actions “do not have sufficient accreditation as to the presence and protection of the general interest,” after a detailed report on the whole previous process and its accelerated approval by the Executive Power.
During the questioning in the Senate, the ruling Cabildo Abierto Party criticized a negotiation on such a matter without prior knowledge of the legislative.
The Court also criticized the president of the National Port Administration (ANP), Juan Curbelo, for substituting the board of directors of the institution that was supposed to take a stance, and the ministry of the sector that resorted to reports and advice after the signing of the new contract, which “is irregular and reproachable” at least.
The complaint filed by the Broad Front directly concerns Heber and his Undersecretary of Transportation, Juan Jose Olaizola, Curbelo and Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Rodrigo Ferres, which confirms the seriousness of the observations and their various implications.
