Norway announces shipment of weapons to Ukraine and breaks tradition

Oslo, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) The Norwegian government on Tuesday announced its first shipment of weapons to Ukraine, thus breaking the tradition of not exporting weapons to countries at war or at risk of war, which had been in force since 1959.

According to local media, Norway will donate 2,000 M72 anti-tank grenade launchers to Kiev, among other military supplements.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said that his country’s stance is in the same vein of that of its close allies and other northern European countries.

According to Store, his country’s export of military material has some restrictions, but Ukraine is currently in an extraordinary situation.

On Feb.24, Russia launched a special military operation in south eastern Ukraine, following a request by the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Luhansk to repel Ukraine’s attacks.

Previously, Moscow had recognized the independence and sovereignty of both territories and signed friendship, cooperation and mutual military assistance treaties.
