According to the Human Rights and Conflict Observatory of Indepaz, the massacre was perpetrated on Tuesday in the Pastrana neighborhood of Maicao, department of La Guajira, when hired assassins with firearms broke into the home of one of the victims and attacked them.

Two people were killed on the spot and a third one lost his life upon arriving at the Asocabildo clinic, in this department, in northern Colombia, the Observatory reported.

The Ombudsman’s Office issued an early warning for Maicao in 2019, alerting about illegal armed groups and transnational armed organizations.

Including this massacre, there have been 20 such cases to date and a confirmed death toll of 58, although the number of victims of one of the massacres in January has yet to be determined.
