The adjustments in the calendar were necessary to comply with the restrictions imposed by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus; however, the quality of education will be guaranteed, according to Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
The daily reported on a televised appearance of Minister of Education Ena Elsa Velazquez, who informed that the school year will begin on March 7 for all schools except for primary schools, which will begin on March 14, because vaccination began later. The school calendar will end on November 19.
The school year has been readjusted by researchers and teachers under the premise of not reducing contents or affecting the fulfillment of the objectives of the subjects, disciplines, grades and levels, she explained.
The minister referred to the difficulties with school materials, due to the limitations imposed on international trade by the Covid-19 pandemic and to the intensified measures of the United States blockade, although more than 1,300 schools were repaired.
In Cuba, the financial resources allocated to the educational sector represent about 25 percent of the current expenditures of the budgeted activity.
Velazquez stressed that the beginning of a new school year takes place under exceptional conditions, because students move from one grade to another or to another educational level in a short period. She called to improve work discipline, school organization and communication with students and their families.
In December 2021, more than one million Cuban children were immunized against Covid-19 with homegrown vaccines, so Cuba became the first country in the world to introducing this action in its strategy to fight the pandemic.
