A report prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) and the Higher Institute of Health (ISS) attributed the excess number of deaths among 10,953,342 confirmed cases to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The text indicated that 53 percent of the deaths associated with the diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 infection occurred in 2020, 41 percent in 2021 and 5.8 percent in January 2022.

The assessment conducted by Istat and ISS highlighted the impact of vaccination in reducing mortality significantly, starting from week 20 of 2021, particularly among people over 80 years of age, 95 percent of whom were immunized last year.
