Camagüey, Cuba, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) The international collaboration agenda of the University of Camagüey is expanding at a seminar with its counterpart in Turku and Tampere, Finland.

On this occasion, the Cuban institution is linked to the IRIS project, which is directly aimed at the integration of intermittent renewable sources in the electricity network.

According to the official website of the University of Camagüey, the first higher education center founded by the Cuban Revolution in 1967, “the IRIS project addresses topics such as the efficient use of renewable energy sources, electricity consumption and energy development in Cuba.”

Eduardo Sierra, head of the UC’s Innovation Technology section, noted that “this is a project that aims to contribute knowledge for the transformation of Cuba’s energy matrix”.

These kinds of projects directly affect both the most technical aspects and the impact of a total change towards renewable energy sources on the national electro-energy system, the UC website noted.

Cuba has, among its main objectives, to reach a 24-percent share of this type of energy sources by 2030, as part of its policy to use and exploit renewable energies.
