It was a bitter, painful day, one of those that cannot be forgotten, not even by those of us who only know the facts from history, the president wrote on his Twitter account.
He added that the explosion of La Coubre is terrorism, its victims and the Cuban response: Patria o Muerte, Venceremos, in allusion to the phrase pronounced by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the burial of the victims of the incident.
Roberto Morales, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, also sent a message on this event, which he described as a sad page in the history of the Cuban people.
Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero made a statement on the attack, which took place 62 years ago, and paid tribute to the more than 100 victims as a result of the two explosions that took place while unloading cargo at Havana’s port.
Cuban historiography agrees on pointing out that it was a sabotage prepared at the embarkation point by agents at the service of the United States to prevent the arrival of the shipment of arms and ammunition in Cuba.
At the burial of the victims (March 5), Fidel Castro said for the first time the slogan that would accompany the Cuban revolutionary process until today: Homeland or Death.
