In a message on Twitter, the strategic operational commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Domingo Hernandez, announced the seizure of drugs and weapons from the Colombian Armed Drug Trafficking Terrorists (Tancol), who operate in that border area and against whom a strong operation is being carried out.
The high command informed on Thursday that security forces are deployed in the vicinity of the Capanaparo river, on the border with Colombia, as part of Operation Vuelvan Caras (About Face).
The deployment is part of the 2022 Bolivarian Shield Operation, and is being carried out to search for and neutralize Colombian irregular groups operating in that area.
The FANB has been operating for months in this bordering territory, carrying out different operations to neutralize criminal gangs, eradicate laboratories and drug plantations.
For a short period, the Apure region has become the center of confrontations between Venezuelan security forces and Colombian paramilitaries, who intend to take control of the border settlements with the neighboring country to use it for drug trafficking and to threaten Venezuela’s peace, according to reports.
