“We cannot say enough that this initiative disregards the partisan turn that those against it are trying to prompt,” this institution refuted in a statement of the campaign in favor.
In this regard, it recalled that it includes cooperators, students, retirees, workers from different partys, who sought to reveal their reasons to repeal those articles in the March 27 referendum.
“We argue that the LUC was presented and approved behind the Uruguayan people’s back, in a record time and depriving citizens from knowing its content and learning about its consequences,” the statement reiterates.
It also condemned the attempt to impose the debate between legislators and politicians only and told the Commission against it that there is a long list of ideal candidates, technicians and professionals in the different themes of LUC, willing to debate, exchange ideas and participate in audiovisual opinion shows.
It stressed that “it is not a race between political parties; instead, many people do not want to be imposed a bad law in general.”
In addition, it expressed the willingness to create the best conditions so that citizens can make their decision on March 27 considering all elements instead of the half-truths they want to impose.”
