Cuba offers cooperation to ECLAC members in Costa Rica

San Jose, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba can play an even greater role in the current situation, contributing to the development of the health and education systems in the region, Cuban Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca stated on Monday.

Cuba can provide Covid-19 vaccines, defending the commitment to leave no one behind, Malmierca said in response to the request by Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado to reflect on how to better contribute to the 5th Forum of Latin American and Caribbean Countries on Sustainable Development, which began three days of sessions in San Jose this Monday.

Latin America and the Caribbean can count on Cuba, stressed the Cuban minister, who ratified that his country will continue advocating for multilateralism, the search for concerted solutions and solidarity cooperation to fight the challenges of development, promoting alliances with the countries in the region and the international community.

Cuba, he said, reiterates its deep commitment to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, despite the complex scenario to which his country has been subjected to.

After pointing out that the US Government’s hostile policy against Cuba has only tightened over time and has been unprecedented in recent years, Malmierca denounced the impact of those unilateral coercive measures on Cuba’s efforts to curb the pandemic and hindering our access to health supplies and equipment.

The Cuban minister thanked and dedicated a special recognition on behalf of the Cuban Government and people to Alicia Barcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), for her tireless efforts, dedicated to sustainable development in the region during the last 14 years leading the regional bloc.

Some 750 delegates from 33 member countries of the regional bloc confirmed their face-to-face and virtual participation in this 5th Forum, organized by the ECLAC and held at the Crowne Plaza Corobici Hotel in San Jose.
