On his official Twitter account, the head of Government sent congratulations to the man who fought against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship (1952-1959) and led a guerrilla group in the mountains of eastern Guantanamo province.
Camacho Aguilera joined the Rebel Army and received the rank of Commander.
After the Revolution´s triumph, on January 1, 1959, he was appointed Minister in Charge of the National Transportation Corporation to put order in that agency, characterized by corruption and fraud.
He was the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in several provinces, was a member of the Political Bureau for more than a decade and was elected to the Central Committee at the 6th Congress of that political organization in April 2011.
Camacho Aguilera is currently director of the Office for the Integral Development of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula, in the far west of Cuba, which recognized a Biosphere Reserve in 1987.
