Attorney General of Mexico to appear before Senate for recordings

México, fiscal, general, senado, grabaciones
Mexico, Mar 9 (Prensa Latina) Alejandro Gertz Manero, attorney general of Mexico, will appear next week in the Senate before the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), and the Justice Commission to make clarifications on alleged inappropriate recordings.

The Jucopo issued a statement today indicating that this was the agreement of the parliamentary coordinators in response to lawsuits filed about said recordings disseminated by the media and social networks.

The coordinator of the opposition senators, Miguel Angel Osorio, said that the idea is for the attorney general to explain what is in the political environment, because from the moment a draft resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, the prosecution has another in their hands when they are two different instances.

However, he gave him “the benefit of the doubt” because what one hears and reality is often different. “We hope he shows up and defends himself against the accusations with arguments.”

For his part, Ricardo Monreal, president of the Jucopo, stated that the meeting will be held once the Supreme Court resolves the trial in which the prosecutor is participating, that is, after March 14th, in order to not intervene in the decision of the ministers.

Monreal said that the Senate must listen to all the versions. “We are not going to become a cover for anyone, nor are we going to defend anyone informally, but neither are we going to become attackers or insatiable Torquemadas.”

According to the media, these are three illegally obtained recordings in which the prosecutor allegedly speaks offensively about some people, a minister of the Supreme Court and a draft resolution of the entity itself, which were published on YouTube.
