According to Listin Diario, most of the cases reported in the last week were concentrated in Santo Domingo and the provinces of Santiago and Bonao.

Health authorities also reported that the epidemiological surveillance system detected 19 malaria patients so far in 2021.

They specified that the incidence of this disease is 49 percent below that recorded last year, when 37 cases were reported.

Dengue, transmitted by the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, has caused major epidemics in the country in previous years.

Malaria is caused by parasites transmitted to humans by the bite of the infected female mosquito belonging to the Anopheles genus and its symptoms are chills, fever and sweating, which appear a few weeks after the bite.
