The total number of fatalities since January 2020, when the disease broke out in the country, now amounts to 515,714.

So far 42,984,261 Indians have contracted the virus.

According to data shared by the government, almost 777 million sample tests have been carried out in local laboratories to date to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the sick or active cases of the coronavirus in the country were reduced to 42,219, according to the Health ministry.

Immunization coverage currently amounts to more than 1,797 million doses of vaccines applied among the Indian population, which is approximately 1,380 million inhabitants.

India remains the second most affected country in the world in terms of number of cases, only behind the United States, which has 79.4 million infected and 964 thousand deaths.
