At a meeting with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka, the head of State assured the development of the elections on May 15 and the intention to continue negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to the Twitter account of the Lebanese Presidency, Aoun told Wronecka that the talks with the IMF are moving towards the approval of the economic and financial recovery plan.
The president expressed support for the United Nations Interim Force in the country and compliance with Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted to resolve the 2006 Israeli-Lebanese conflict.
For her part, Wronecka thanked Aoun for his support in her work as Special Coordinator for the country and gave an update on her presentation to the Security Council on March 17.
Lebanon, currently immersed in a financial and economic crisis, called for parliamentary elections last December and the country’s residents abroad will be able to vote between May 6 and 8, a week before the elections on national territory.
