Contingency due to oil spill on Venezuelan beaches (+ Photo)

Anzoategui, Venezuela, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) Personnel and oil extraction equipment of Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) are working intensively today to contain the crude oil spilled on the beaches of Lecheria and Puerto La Cruz, in Anzoategui.

The Director of Civil Protection of the territory, Williams Guacaran, informed that the contingency together with specialists from the Ministry of Ecosocialism have been working uninterruptedly since last Saturday due to a leak in the 16-inch subway line of the Puerto La Cruz refinery.


He asked for the community’s full cooperation and warned not to use the beaches until the drainage is achieved.

Fishermen claim that oleophilic barriers are observed in the waterways that flow into Pozuelos bay.

According to the first commander of the State Fire Department, Eduardo Bellorin, Los Canales, Lido and Cangrejo beaches were ordered to be closed until further notice, and bathers were evacuated after detecting traces of hydrocarbon on the coasts of Lecheria, municipality of Urbaneja.

Oil stains were also observed on the beaches of Paseo de la Cruz y el Mar and Los Cocos, the authorities informed and reiterated that both beaches are not suitable forbathing.
