The secretary of the union, Méhu Changeux, specified that the strike will take place from Thursday, March 17 to Sunday, March 20, to demand effective actions from the State to protect carriers and passengers, local newspaper Le Nouvelliste reports.
Less than 48 hours ago, armed gangs robbed eight buses on different regional roads and committed robberies.
According to Changeux, the strike is the method the drivers have to resist the situation, as they have no weapons to confront the criminals.
“The State must watch over our safety”, the unionist added and concluded that if nothing is done in the next few days, the strike will have a national character.
In declarations to local media Magik9, another member of the union, Jacques Anderson Desroches, acknowledged that the three-day strike will not solve the problem of insecurity, but it will alert the authorities of its magnitude.
