Mexico ratifies ILO Convention on harassment and violence

oit
Mexico, March 17 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican Senate ratified the agreement on violence and harassment of the International Labor Organization (ILO) signed to date by 11 countries, according to the website of the Senate.

The statement indicates that, with this step, Mexico endorses its commitment to its feminist foreign policy and becomes the fourth country in Latin America and the Caribbean to adopt the agreement.

The ratification by Mexico of what is also known as Convention 190, and the acceptance of an ILO recommendation, also means the ratification the country’s international commitment to gender equality.

This agreement recognizes that it is essential to end violence and harassment in the world of work, the adoption of an inclusive and integrated approach that takes into account gender considerations and addresses the underlying causes and risk factors, including stereotypes, multiple forms of discrimination and the abuse of power relations for that reason.

It clarifies that Mexico began the ratification process of Convention 190 with the commitment that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced at the closing of the Generation Equality Forum on July 2nd, 2021 in Paris, France.

Ebrard mentioned that, as part and an important complement to its feminist foreign policy, Mexico would initiate the corresponding steps to ratify it. From that moment, the Foreign Ministry began taking the technical steps that would allow its prompt ratification to be submitted to the consideration of the Senate of the Republic.
