Ukrainian refugees cause migration crisis in Czech Republic

Prague, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) The Government of the Czech Republic warned that the country is at the limit of its capacity to receive Ukrainian refugees, who already total around 270,000, a figure that tends to increase every day.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on Thursday that “we must admit that we are at the edge of what we can absorb without bigger problems,” because thousands of people arrive every day from that nation, although Ukraine does not have borders with the Czech Republic.

Fiala referred to the measures approved by his Executive to support these refugees, besides a financial aid of 200 euros, changes in the regulations to ease the visa procedures, as well as the access to the healthcare services, education and work places.

Ukrainian migrants mainly arrive by train at Prague’s central station, after passing through Slovakia, and although some of them continue on to other destinations, many choose to stay in the Czech Republic.
