US blockade has an impact on young Cuban people

Havana, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) Difficulties in having access to state-of-the-art technologies, databases and researches are some of the negative impacts of the US blockade on young Cubans, researcher Laura Cepera said on Thursday.

During a virtual meeting ¨SolidaridadVsBloqueo¨, organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, in Spanish), Ms. Cepera stated that over 70% of the Cuban people has grown up with the effects of the tightening of the US blockade.

She explained that research conducted by the Center for Youth Studies showed that foreign migration flows in this age group are motivated by economic improvement and, to a lesser extent, political matters, at an age when searching for personal and family emancipation prevails.

The expert stressed that, despite the effects of the economic, political and financial US blockade, the young Cuban people do science, create, reinvent work methods and implement new choices to overcome any obstacles.

Dr. Samira Addrey, a Ghanaian graduate of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM, in Spanish), recalled her experiences regarding the US blockade upon her arrival in Cuba, where she was able to see the huge pitfalls the Cuban people face.
