The catastrophe´s cause is linked to the pouring rains that for several days have been lashing the area, according to the result of the first investigations released by the government office´s head in the zone, Kalala Murongo.
The dead, mainly coming from the Bukavu city, capital of South Kivu province, were buried in common graves, according to the official.
This is the second major catastrophe of the same type since September, 2020, when half a hundred miners died at the Mitunga mine, in the same province in eastern DRC.
