Operation in Ukraine is to save the Donbass people, Putin says

Moscow, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that the main objective of the military operation in Ukraine is to free the population of Donbass from the genocide suffered for eight years.

In his speech at the beginning of a concert in this capital to celebrate the Day of the Reunification of Crimea with Russia, the president pointed out that the inhabitants of that republic and the city of Sevastopol did the right thing by stopping the neo-Nazis and nationalists.

He said that it was necessary to get the peninsula out of the “humiliating situation” to which its population was subjected when it was part of Ukraine, whose government financed it in a residual way.

According to Putin, the best proof of that is what happened and is still happening in other territories of Ukraine.

Putin explained that the people who lived and live in Donbass did not agree with the 2014 coup d’état in that country.

He said that this was the cause of organizing punitive military operations against them.

“They were immediately put under siege, subjected to systematic shelling and air strikes. All this is what is called genocide,” he noted.

Putin expressed his appreciation for the Russian military and stressed that this kind of “unity” the country has not experienced for a long time.
