Ecuadorian police seize 2,9 tons of cocaine in Guayaquil

Quito, March 19 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian National Police have seized 2.9 tons of cocaine in the port city of Guayaquil, one of the country´s most besieged by drug trafficking.

The police raid, called Victoria 17, made it possible to block a heavy-duty truck on the Highway carrying cocaine stashed away in a container while it was moving to port.

According to details by Colonel Víctor Zarate, Zone 8 Police Commander, Belgium was the final destination for the drug, being manabí province the starting point.

The seized cocaine was stored in rectangular-shaped packages, kept in 75 jute bags camouflaged among export wood.

As a result of the raid, only one person was busted, while other individuals who were escorting the truck in two light vehicles managed to get away.
