UAE considers Syria essential for Arab security

Damascus, 19 (Prensa Latina) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces, said Saturday that Syria is a fundamental pillar for Arab security and stability.

Our support for the stability, unity and integrity of the Syrian territory is unwavering, his highness said when receiving President Bashar al Assad in Abu Dhabi.

Bin Zayed Al Nahyan considered necessary the withdrawal of all foreign forces illegally present in the Syrian territory, and expressed his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation with this Levantine nation.

In turn, the Syrian leader said that in a changing world where instability prevails, it is essential to stick to principles and defend the sovereignty and interests of the people.

Al Assad’s visit to the UAE is the first of its kind to an Arab country and the third after Russia and Iran, since the outbreak of the war in this nation in 2011.

The UAE was the first Gulf country to reopen its embassy in Syria in late 2018, and also sent several batches of humanitarian aid to help the people overcome the aftermath of the blockade and the Covid-19 pandemic.
