Russia had not been supplying LPG to Afghanistan since mid 2020 due to Covid-19 related restrictions and low profitablility, TOLO news channel stressed.
The gas processing plant in the Russian city of Orenburg, owned by Kazrosgaz, a joint venture of Kazakh state-owned Kazmunaigaz and Russia’s Gazprom, plans to ship 10,000 tons of LPG to Afghanistan, according to railway data from Refinitiv Eikon.
Kazrosgaz used to send LPG shipments from the Orenburg plant by rail, mainly to the Ukrainian port of Izmail and to Belarus, but the conflict in Ukraine caused the company to look for alternative routes.
The possibility of redirecting LPG volumes to Afghanistan resurfaced as exports are now more profitable following the fall in prices on Russia’s domestic market, according to experts.
