United Kingdom registers new inflation record in February

London, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) The inflation rate in United Kingdom reached again record levels for the second consecutive month in February, standing at 6,2%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported.

According to the government agency´s report, it is the highest figure registered in the country since 1992, and it is mainly attributed to the increase in fuel and energy prices.

The ONS added that other factors that conttributed to further rise the cost of living last month were the increase in transportation services, food, clothing, footwear and even toys.

However, it is expected that inflation continues increasing in United Kingdom after that next month comes into effect the 54% increse in electricity and gas tariffs approved by the energy regulator for millions of British homes.

In April, the amount of employee and employer social security contributions will also increase.

The report issued today neither had into account the impact between Russia and Ukraine war on the British economy, due to the conflict started at the end of February. Uk´s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, wil present today to Parliament the measures designed by the government in order to try to cope the rising cost of living.

In this regard, Labor MP John McDonnell called on the Conservative authorities to protect the lowest income people of and pensioners and advocated freezing the rent price and transport fares.
