In a private meeting with the head of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the parties discussed the excellent and fruitful relations between that institution and Cuba, while ratifying the will to continue strengthening them, according to a press release from the diplomatic headquarters.
The Ambassador gave an update on the situation in Cuba and welcomed FAO’s response to the UN Secretary General’s Note on Resolution A/RES/75/289 “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”.
In this regard, it reported on the intensification of this hostile policy in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects it is having on the development of the agricultural sector, the text indicated.
She also provided information on the legislative process underway in Cuba for the approval of the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, which seeks to increase agricultural production and reduce dependence on imports to guarantee the population’s right to healthy and adequate food.
Granda was accompanied by Gabriela Gamez and Marcel Bernal, members of Cuba’s representation to the International Organizations based in Rome.
