Covid-19 cases plummet in Vietnam

Although the country is advancing at a good pace towards a new normality, health authorities called not to be confident in the low lethality of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and they recalled that its irruption last December brought the statistics to their current levels.

Nowadays, Vietnam now has 9,650,663 infected with the disease, the highest number in Southeast Asia and the third highest in Asia after India and South Korea.

Although it is also improving by the day, the epidemiological situation in Hanoi remains complicated, with cases totaling 7,734 (from a peak of 32,650 on March 8).

This Friday, the Ministry of Health reported 33 deaths -the figure is also tending to decrease-, bringing the accumulated total to 42,526. More than 2,500 patients have a compromised clinical condition.

As the days go by, the opinion of experts is reinforced, according to whom Covid-19 should already be declared endemic because the number of hospitalizations, serious cases and deaths is low in comparison with the worst moments of the pandemic.
